To learn we need to understand about the meaning of the passage of time.
So it is with the history of ska music.
Was World War II that changed everything. British rule of the colonies collapsed countries before World War II and divided at mid-war period. Britain began granting independence to its colonies after pressure from colonial rule. In 1962 Jamaican self-government while still remaining a country that prospered. Muziknya Jamaican culture began to reflect the new found optimism of the liberal aspirations of the people.
Since 40'an Jamaica has adopted and adapted many forms of American muzik. By the time World War II ended, so many bands in Jamaica playing muzik dance ². Groups such as the Eric Dean Orchestra with trombonist Don Drummond and master guitarist Ernest Ranglin influenced by American jazz ² pemuzik such as Count Basie, Erskine Hawkins, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and Woody Herman. Ditahun 50'an fame jazz bands in America were replaced by smaller groups and tend to play rhythm bop / rhythm & blues sound. Jamaican musicians who frequently visited the United States affected the pattern of the game and bring it to their home areas muzik. Local bands in Jamaica as Count Smith The Blues Blaster, Sir Nick The Champ & Tom The Great Sebastian started playing a new style. In 1954, the biggest show was first held in the city of Kingston place in the Ward Theatre. The bands that play traditional mento rhythm-folk-calypso partake Courant and often times these bands a show at hotels that exist in Jamaica and around the island. At the end of the year 50'an influences of jazz, R & B, and mento (a type of muzik calypso) fuse into a new form called 'shuffled'. Rhythm shuffled obtained thanks to the hard work populari musicians such as Neville Esson, Owen Grey, The Matador Overtakers & The Allstars. Many studios and companies began popping rakaman to seek out new talent ². The Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation began encouraging young pemuzik ² ² event through radio broadcasts.
Two very influential in the development of music in Jamaica in 50'an was Duke Reid and Clement Seymour Dodd. Together with his wife, Duke Reid has shops' Treasure Island Liquor on Bond Street (Bond Street). Reid was known as 'The Trojan', taken from the text contained in traknya. Trak are used to transport the goods to stores. Dodd named his soundsystem 'Sir Coxsone Downbeat' is taken from the name origin Yorkshire cricketer, Coxsone. Throughout the year, the two men conducted in bisnes muzik. Although Coxsone closer to the 'Ghetto' (who inhabited the village or group) is Reid who was awarded as the 'King of sound & blues' at Success Club (awarding event) in 1956, 1957, 1958.
In 1962, when Jamaica was inclined to imitate the music-muzik America, Cecil Bustamente Campbell, later known as Prince Buster, do know that something new was embodied at the time. He has his guitarist Jah Jerry muzik then experimented with an emphasis on 'knock' afterbeat 'instead of' downbeat '. Until now tapping into the essence of singkop afterbeat (onsite rhythm) Jamaican specialties. Ska was born. Soundsystem / merakam began recording hasi their work. With no label on vinyl (black plate) in order to gain advantage among its competitors. So that others can not see what's playing and 'steal' for their own sondsystem.
The war between the soundsystem was peaked when donors threatened by a bunch of people who cause problems ². ² One is called 'Dance Hall Crashers. Although the facilities are still primitive mono recording, was the determination of ska enthusiasts muzik muzik allowing it to become the first commercial Jamaican time. And the fact that dance music known as ska of Jamaica.
Throughout the year 60'an ghetto areas of Jamaica met by young men looking for work. At the time it was very hard on dapati. At first the youths are not interested in ska optimism. The youth group creates true identity as the 'Rude Boy' (a trend among youth that ever happened early period 40'an) Being Rude 'does that mean to somebody when people consider useless. Dance styles of the Rude Boy Ska has its own characteristics, more slowly, with behavior as if punching someone. Rude Boy has connectivity with 'Scofflaws' (people who have always opposed the law) and other criminal world. This is reflected in the lyrics of ska. (Note: Rude Boy performance style dress with pants iatu mengatung only ankle). Muzik ska once again changed to reflect the mood of the rude with more tension in the bass as opposed to the previous iatu 'free-style walking bass'.
Many have come to speculate in the city of Kingston to acquire knowledge in the industry muzik sellers turning to marijuana when it fails and diminishing capital. Many of them are involved in the criminal world (depicted in the movie "The Harder They Come ', starring Jimmy Cliff ... this film tells the unbelievable journey of Jimmy Cliff)
Two political parti Jamaica Banser armed form. Public opinion was
lead to resistance to the rude boys and the use of firearms. Regulations have firearms were traced back after a period in which weapons are allowed origin does not cause unrest in society. Anyone who has an illegal firearm, punishable by life imprisonment
Artists and producers supported or condone the actions of the Rude Boy through
muzik ska. Support to not use firearms reflected in songs like "Lawless Street" of The Soul Brothers, "Gunmen coming to town" The Heptones. Duke Reid produced a ska group The Rude Boy (shuffling down Bond street) CS Dodd also co-produced the young group who have a vision muzik them as 'rudies' iatu group The Wailers (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer).
Prince Buster find the mythical character as Rude Boy iatu
Judge Dread. The song "007 Shanty Town" sung by Desmond Dekker is a brilliant work in documenting the behavior into a song Rude Boy (successfully entered the charts sequence to 14 in the UK Charts)
Rude boy theme dominates the entire period ska, and popularitinya peaked during the summer of 1964. Beat a slower ska & Rocksteady was born. Wave ska first ended in 1968 (Rocksteady is Courant another story: Rocksteady gave birth muzik Reggae. Populariti muzik Reggae in the UK spread by Skinhead; groups of Rastafarians adopted muzik Reggae & lyrics ² songs tend themed teachings of Rastafari religious views, Reggae evolved into 'Dub', 'Dancehall', and so on ... and so on ...)
Entering the second wave ... before let us look at some other ska history:
In 1962, a time when Britain promised unlimited guarantee to the
immigrants who come from countries ² commonwealth, unrest ensued. While it muzik ska and reggae are popular. Brought from Jamaica by many pemuzik and producers who participate acetate including The Trojans' & a Cuban-born, Laurel Aitken. In the 70's, the Rude Boy & terhasil in merging two kinds of music that is still relatively new in the UK iatu reggae and punk by the band The Clash (Rudie can not fail). In the mid to late 70's, bands such as The Coventry Automatics chose to play ska instead of reggae because, according to Jerry Dammers (founder of the band), playing ska music was easier. The Coventry Automatics changed its name to The Specials AKA The Automatics, then changed again to The Specials.
Furthermore, in 1979 Jerry Dammers set up 2-Tone Records. Desire Dammers like Prince Buster in early 60'an to create something new. Black & white a symbol. Thus was born the so-called 2-Tone ska. Logo 2-Tone iatu cartoons man in a black suit with a white shirt, black tie, pork pie hat ', black glasses, white socks and shoes' lofers' black became the official logo character was given the name' Walt Jabsco '(taken from name Walt Disney, founder of cartoons & Jabsco bererti marijuana in slang latin). Created by Dammers own
Peter Tosh pose based on an early photo group The Wailers to
seen on the album cover of 'The Wailing Wailer Studio One Realease'.
At the time of unrest going on, and racist organization 'National Front' is growing
rapid, black and white clothing of his band members consist of the rioters, ascertains
songs with the theme 'unity' while the country was torn apart by issues
racial. Similarly ska in Jamaica, the situation at the time
reflected into the lyrics of the song, such as "Racist Friend" The Specials AKA. Bands like
Madness, The Beat, The Selecter, The Bodysnatchers and The Specials ska to create something fresh by processing numbers ska classics from Prince Buster (Roughrider, Madness, Too hot, etc..) & Artists pertamanya.Band another wave but does not include the 2-Tone 2-Tone movement was associated with Bad Manners. There is also a cross with the first wave of artists with the band 2 Tone (Rico Rodriguez is a trombone player who became an additional player in the group The Specials, pupils of the famous trombone player Don Drummond and played as a studio musician in Jamaica)
Chrysalis Records bought 2Tone of Dammers with the decision to sign a contract agreement with the other 2-Tone bands. Including, among others: The Specials, The Selecter, Madness, Rico Rodriguez, The Swinging Cats, The Friday Club, The Bodysnatchers, The Hisons, JB Allstars, Specials AKA, The Apollonairs, The Beat (in America identify as' The English Beat 'because there is already a band called The Beat) and a single from Elvis Costello. (Note: Elvis Costello single is titled "I can not stand up for falling down 'into problems and was never on sale. Copies were given away to fans at Costello shows. Costello produced the debut album of The Specials and was a guest singer and producer for the single titled The Special AKA Nelson Mandela 12 ".
Dibubar 2-Tone label in 1985. Dammers bankruptcy against the company Chrysalis. 2-Tone bands experienced the popularity of tahun1978-1985 2-Tone nevertheless not only that play ska. Among the other bands are The Tigers, Ska City Rockers, The Akrylykz (with Roland Gift on tenor sax, which later joined with members of The English Beat Cox, & Steele who later became a singer at the Fine Young Cannibals), The Employees, The Piranhas , and many more ...
Thus closes the second wave of ska ... on the third wave: the end of the 2-Tone and the second wave of ska into a narrow but not a music obsolete. Is The toasters (never released a single under the name 'Not Bob Marley'), Bim Skala Bim, The Untouchables and Fishbone are made in mixing tradition with elements of ska beat muzik ² such as pop, rock and other beat-beat.
The presence of third wave ska shapes by combining virtually every type of muzik which can roughly be defined ska rhythm. Bands like Jump With Joey, Hepcat, Yebo, NY Ska Jazz Ensemble & Stubborn Allstars keep playing on Jamaican ska roots. Operation Ivy, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, etc.. use the energy of punk to create ska-core. Regatta 69, Fillibuster, Urban Blight, etc.. stick to the style of reggae / rocksteady. Punch The Clown, Undercover S.K.A., etc.. characterize the effect of 2-Tone style. Of particular interest is the band from Florida, Pork Pie Tribes combine ska beats with traditional Irish muzik. Then there are bands like The Brownies that combine with just about anything!
The Rude Boy / Rude Girl comes back in a third wave, but this time not as
rebels. But as a fanatical supporter muzik SKA, Skinheads Against Racial Prejudiced (Sharp's) are also concepts of 'sell outs'. There are some aspects of which have not been changed: ska still muzik among adolescents, ska each show can be watched by all ages and is not too expensive to accommodate. Besides, the ska beat still form a unique and harmonious though combined with other elements muzik & people still enjoy it a lot.
